Ice Cream Sauerkraut and Eskimo Kisses

Dreaming of happy days to come, long walks, birthdays and bedtime stories.

Awaiting the pitter-patter of little feet calling me daddy and saying I love you.

Words sweeter than ice cream, an acquired taste like sauerkraut topped with giggles, proud moments and Eskimo kisses.

Ready to awaken to cartoons and have you nestled in my arms.

Imagining the day when you’ll run through the door from school uttering

“Papa I don’t Feel Good”.

I will lay down my armor to only pick you up, place you in my bed and breathe life into your innocence.

I will safely shelter your soul as a bowl embraces ice cream.

I will laugh when your mouth twists at the sight of sauerkraut and I will never shy away from your Eskimo kisses.

When the day comes for you to venture far from my reach I will pray to heaven, hope for strength and stand strong knowing you will forever be with me.

So remember you are never to far from home and I promise to always love you like strawberry ice cream, I’ll pick away all the icky sauerkraut and keep you warm with my Eskimo Kisses.
